Visualization 3

This visualization is comparing the safety and risk of living in apartment and residence over time in Chicago. As you can see the year is only from 2001 through 2018, as a matter of fact there is no year 2019 in this visualization. Putting crimes at 2019 in this visualization may skew the visualization because 2019 is not at the end of the year yet. So, enjoy the visualization below and I hope this is helpful to you when you decides to move to Chicago.

Questions:
1.     Answer the title question, is apartment or residence safer to live in Chicago? If you’re new to Chicago, where will you choose to live? Justify your answer.
2.     Choose the crime type to homicide, what are your observations? Does your answer to first question changed or stay the same?
3.     Look at the apartment crimes over time individually and then do the same with residence. What do you notice about the changes in amount of crimes?
4.     Make an assumption about the crime that you consider the most serious, i.e. battery is more frequent in apartment. Then choose the crime and observe the graph, does the result match your assumption?

5.     Looking at how the graph goes, will the lines intersect in the future in your opinion?

Comments

  1. 1. Apartments have lower crime rates than residences but I would still prefer to move into a residence because it appears the crime rates for residences are consistently dropping over the years and the crime rates are close for both types in 2018.
    2. Homicides almost never occur in a residence and I will keep my answer for question 1.
    3. Both types have an increase of crime rate in 2008 but then both types generally decrease after 2008.
    4. I assumed robbery would be more common among residences but the crime rates are pretty similar from 2004-2018.
    5. It looks like these lines will cross (looking at all crime types).
